b'Tales From the Yard SaleBy Marcia Fick, WPBFC member & Yard Sale VolunteerO nce again, Fishing Club volunteers did another incredible job organizing the an-nual Marine Yard Sale, which takes place onsite every April. The amount of prep work that goes into this event lasts for nearly two weeks and culminates in a feeding-frenzy of sorts in the front yard of the Fishing Club the morning of the sale.It is a fun commu-nity gathering every year. The entire morning went off without a hitch and brought in significant funding for the Fishing Clubs charitable foundation.Great work team! I wanted to mention a few of the people I met this year. The common theme being how far they traveled to come to the Marine Yard Sale. First off, there was a young-ster who went into great detail about how early he got up in the morning to make the journey and how far away he lives.Turns out he lives in Tequesta and was in line at 3am!Then there were two kids who arrived in the final hour of the sale with their mother who drove up from Miami. They were deeply disappointed at having gotten there so late to find everything mostly gone.No doubt they will be getting Mom up much, much earlier next year! Finally, there are the Rosenbergers.I met Frederick last year at the yard sale.He arrived at the fly fishing tent about midway through the sale and proceed to clean us out.Frederick, a die-hard freshwater trout guy in his mid-twenties, had just moved to Jupiter to take an engineering job.He picked up his first spinning rod that day, a pink rod along with many, many other items. He ended up taking a chair and chatting fly fishing for the remainder of the sale.Oh, and he joined the club! So, this year who shows up again but Frederick, and he is not alone. He had so much fun last year that he convinced his father, Robert, to fly in from Wisconsin to attend the sale!Actually, I dont think it took too much convincing.Anyway, the two of them together walked out with arm loads of fly rods, flies and assorted tackle. They had such a good time that Robert is already plan-ning to fly back for next years sale.As a sidenote, Fredericks first spinning rod didnt survive its initial snook encounter last summer so he replaced it this year with a baby blue spinning rod. Thank you to all the club members who donate used or un-wanted fishing tackle and related items. The sale wouldnt be possible without the donations the club receives throughout the yearremember one fishermans junk is another fisher-2023 volunteer crewmans treasure!T ighTL inesM agazine- F aLL2023 51'
