b'Material Added to Reef Dart SiteLast fall 40 additional Reef Darts were deployed at our deep-water site located offshore Palm Beach Inlet in 500 feet of water. We have now placed a total of 160 Reef Darts measur-ing 25 to 50 feet tall at this location. This year 500 tons of low profile material was added to the site creating a more complex reef system.Concrete culverts, weighing 3 tons each and measuring 8 feet long were scattered around the existing Reef Dart clusters to help diversify benthic habitat.Construction at our stagging site has temporarily put building more Reef Darts on hold.Fortunately, we are still able to add other materials to the site. This is some-thing we have been planning to do since the beginning of the Reef Dart program. So this year wasthe perfect time for us to do this, said WPBFC President Tom Twyford. The Fishing Clubs goal from the onset has been to create high relief habitat that is beneficial for a wide variety of invertebrates and marine fish, including pelagics as well as overfished species of deep-water snappers and groupers. The Reef Dart program would not be possible without the donors, partners and friends who have played a role in helping the Fishing Club develop this first of its kind reef building conceptThank you for sharing our vision!Palm Beach County Department of Environmental Resources ManagementFleming Family FoundationPalm Beach County Reef Research TeamJohn G.
