b"Kid's Fishing Days FunThe PBCFF concluded its 33rd Kids Fishing Days program in July. While the program looked a little different this year, there was no less enthusiasm for the fishing adventure. The smiling faces and screams of excitement were just the same as they always have been. The PBCFF chartered the 'Living On Island Time' and the 'Miss Blue Heron' drift boats this year for the program that is provided free of charge to participating youth groups. We ran a total of five trips offshore, over a two-week period.Groups of kids from the Riviera Beach Wells Recreation Center, the Orthodox Zion Church, For The Children, American Heritage Girls, New Hope Charity, the City of West Palm Beach Athletics Program and Faiths Place were among the groups that took part.As has become the norm with this program, quite a few kids caught their first ever saltwater fish. For many, clearing the inlet and heading offshore on a large boat was an eye-opening experience.A few kids even saw the ocean for the very first time!On the final trip a large wahoo ventured close to the boat for several minutes picking off chunks of sardines that were being tossed over-board.Unfortunately, the fish was not interested in a hooked bait, but the encounter was exciting for all aboard.Flying fish, sea turtles and sharks also made appearances to the kids delight. In addition to the fishing trip, each child received a t-shirt, snacks, drinks, and a new fishing rod & reel with tackle kit.Kudos to club members George Patane, Bob Yastrzem-ski and Dan Miller who played significant volunteer roles this year. The PBCFF has been conducting Kids Fishing Days since 1988 with over 14,000 area youth who have taken part. The generosity of community sponsors like the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County, The Fleming Family Foundation, The Taylor Foundation, Bill & Clare Bohnett and many other individual donors and area busi-nesses has made this program possible for more than three decades. The PBCFF is grateful to all who help us give underserved kids from our community this special day on the water, something they rarely have an opportunity to experience. The smiles say it all! Many thanks to these major Kids Fishing Days sponsors: 2021 Memorial Sandie & Ethan Weitz Donationsbenefiting Kids Fishing Day"
