10 West Palm Beach Fishing Club O'Toole Gets Another Club Record 2015 contest winners Corey Engelman C l u b m e m b e r Patrick Smith of Lantana won the WPBFC’s Inshore Grand Champion honors in the Sum- mer Fishing Con- test. Smith smoked the field of other club anglers with a total of 14 winning fish in a variety of tackle categories. Highlights included a 15.25 lb. jack on Plug 16 tackle, a 4.25 lb. peacock bass on Spin 8 tackle, and a 5.5 lb. largemouth bass on Spin 8. Smith also claimed release award honors for tarpon and bonefish, notably all caught, many on fly tackle, while fishing in the Lake Worth Lagoon. Corey Engelman of Jupiter won the WPBFC’s coveted Winter Fishing Contest Grand Champion award. From early on in the competition Co- rey dominated the field. He racked up a total of 20,600 points throughout the six month contest, winning not only the overall award but also tackle category awards for spin and general. The Winter Contest Grand Champ trophy is among the most difficult awards to win in the WPBFC, requiring the winning angler to catch a great variety of fish on varying types of tackle. The award has been presented since 1992. Winter Contest Grand Champion Junior Angler of the Year Summer Contest Offshore Grand Champ Summer Contest Inshore Grand Champ 15 year old Brennan Leckrone of Atlantis was named the WPBFC 2015 Junior Angler of the Year. Brennan amassed a list of catches, mostly on light tackle, that would be the envy of any veteran an- gler. Stand out catches included a 6 lb. bonefish on Fly 20 tackle, an 8 lb., 13 oz. largemouth bass on 12 general, a 21 lb., 7 oz. dolphin on 20 general, and a 19 lb., 7 oz. snook on 30 general tackle. Brennan caught and released many snook, bonefish and jacks, plus over 100 peacock and largemouth bass on fly and light tackle. Brennan Leckrone Duane Scherz of Jupiter claimed the title of the 2015 Summer Fishing Contest Offshore Grand Champion. Scherz tal- lied a list of notable light tackle catches, highlighted by an 11.5 lb. dolphin on Spin 8 tackle, an 18.5 lb. dolphin on Plug 16 tackle, and a 48.25 lb. wahoo on 20 General tackle. Duane posted a total of 5 winning fish in the contest to earn the offshore champ title. Is Your Hand Scale Certified? Longtime club member Dennis O'Toole of Stuart broke a 55 year old club record in the Little Tunny category with a 26 lb. fish on 20 General tackle last summer. O'Toole's fish becomes the largest bonito in the All Time Club Record Book. Dennis also holds records for Spanish mackerel and flounder. Congrats Dennis!
