21TightLinesBulletin-WinterSpring2011ThiswastheForecastColdfrontpushingthroughovernightwindsnorth-northwest13-18knotslowsinthelow40x19swithwindchillinthe30x19s.x1cLookslikeagooddaytotryandseeifthesailsarebitingx1dfamouswordsmadebyJimmyLambertonJanuary11th.Thefollowingmorn-ingtheweatherservicepredictionwasrightonanditwasbonecoldAswepushedoutHillsboroInletat830a.m.andpointednorththewindchillat13-18knotswasmultipliedbythemillionthpower.Wewererunningstraightintoitat50milesperhourinacenterconsoleboat.Werantoourfavoritespotthex18MartiniGlassx19offBoyntonBeach.Withalittlebitofwestinthewindweknewwewouldbeblownslowlyoffshoresowesetupin100footofwater.JustasIwasget-tingmyoffshorekiteintheairJimmyyellsoutx1cGothimonx1dWhatagreatwaytostartthedayFirstbaitinthewaterandweconnectwithasailshourintendedtarget.NottowasteanytimeJoeFigielandIcontinuedtoputourkitesout.Justaswegotthespreadcompletelyoutthesailsstartedtoshowupinpacks.Thesingleturnedintoaquadandthatisthewayitcontinued.AsIwouldstareatmykitebaitIwouldoccasionallylookupseaandcatchaglimpseofmultiple58SailsinOneDaybyWPBFCmemberRobertx18Flyx19Navarroeverylittlebittheyhad.Onebyonetheygotateuntilwehookedandsuc-cessfullylandedourlastquadfortheday.Whenthenaltallywascountedweendedupwith58sailshreleasesfor85bites.Itwasoneincredibledayofshingrightoutofourbackyard.EditorsNoteThisisoneofthebestsail4shreleasedaysrecordedinrecenthistoryoffthePalmBeaches.TherecordonedaycatchwassetonFebruary3rd1980bythelateLouBoskiandcrew4sh-ingaboardtheElbow7withCapt.AlbertJohnsonatthehelm.Theyreleasedanamazing83sailsironicallyinthesamegeneralareaeastofBoyntonInlet.LongtimeFishingClubmemberCapt.JackieMorrowaboardtheNoProblemwasalsoonthewaterthatdayhiscrewreleased54sails.ReelyTightcrewdisplays58redreleasepennants.AnotherOldReliableRecordSeveralyearsagoNickSmithx19sOldReliablecrewbecamethersttorelease100stripedmarlinonytackleinoneseason.TheywereshingthefamedwatersofMagdalenaBayoffthewesterncoastofMexicox19sBajapeninsulalocatedapproximately140milesnorthofCaboSanLucas.LastfallthecrewCaptainChipSha-feranglerownerNickSmithandmatesGreyselMorenoandx18Bertox19EstrellaPucenteredtherecordbooksonceagainforsuccessfullycatchingandreleasing16stripedmarlinonyinoneday.Allmar-linwerecaughtinaccordancewithIGFArulesusingCamSigleriestiedto20lb.classtippets.Themarlinaver-aged100poundswithsever-alshinthe125x13150poundclass.Nearlyallthemarlinwereraisedwhileblindtroll-inghooklessteasersmostlyMoldcraftandIlanderlures.x1cIneverthoughtitwouldbepossibletocatchthatmanyinasingledayony.Giventhestripesx19tendencytonotteaseinwellandthenfortheirlongdrawnoutbattlesoncehooked.Theyx19retoughtocatchinbignumbersx1dcommentedSmithwhohasbeenaWPBFCmemberfor58years.CongratulationsNicksailsswimmingdownsea.Ifaatlinewouldgetabiteitwasonlyamatteroftimebeforetheywouldshowupononeofourkitebaits.Thissamepatterncontinuedallday.Themajorityofthebiteswerebetween100-125feetfromtheMartiniGlasstoBoyntonInlet.Asthedayprogressedtherewerenoboatstobeseenandweallbegantocallallourfriendsandsh-ermenthatweknewtocomeoutandjoinus.Everypersonwecalledwereeitherinatournamenttothenorthorpreparingforonethefollowingday.Sowecontinuedtoshallalone.TheonlyboatseenalldaywasaCoastGuardCutter.Aswordgotoutaboutthedaywewerehavingweallbegantogetcallsandtextmessagesfrompeopleseekingupdates.Bymid-afternoonwewereupto41releasesandtheywerestillbiting.Ascoldasitwasweneverfeltit.Wefoughtmultiplesalldaylong.Themostwehadonatonetimewas7sailsh.Icanx19tsayhowmanytimeswehad5sailshonatoncebutwithonly5anglersitkeptusreallybusy.Asthedayprogressedwestartedrecyclingbaits.Bytheendofthedaywehadourlast4woundedbaitsoutonthekitesmaybemissinganeyeasmallcutorjustwornoutThoselastbaitsstruggledandkickedwith
