Annual Fishing Contest

Club members can enter their catches in the WPBFC Annual Fishing Contest every day of the year.

Annual Fishing Contest Rules

The contest is open to all WPBFC members age 10 yrs. and older, allowing them to compete for sponsored prizes throughout the angling year, which runs Nov. 1 – Oct. 31. The WPBFC Annual Fishing Contest is based upon the weight of individual fish. Club members are encouraged to have their own hand scale, which can be certified by the WPBFC. Awards for twenty-four different species of fish in multiple tackle categories are presented. For the inshore/nearshore and offshore awards, the heaviest eligible fish caught on the specified tackle will be judged the winner. The designation of a fish as either inshore/nearshore or offshore is not meant to be restrictive. An eligible fish may be entered regardless of catch location within the contest boundaries. For the release awards (blue/white marlin, bonefish, & tarpon) the winner will be that person who accumulates the most release points. With over 140 awards up for grabs there are many opportunities to win.

Submitting your catch has never been easier. Members can enter their catches via smart phone using the WPBFC’s electronic fillable affidavit. Simply “Add to Home Screen” and the created shortcut works just like an app. Enter fish at your convenience, even while you are out on the water! Of course hard copies of the affidavit can be submitted as well.

Two very special awards will be presented to the top adult and junior angler in the annual contest (see award criteria below).

Awarded to the adult angler who submits catch affidavits for ten (10) different species of fish that are ‘qualifying’ entries (qualifying meaning fish meets the minimum weight required for entry). Of those entries, the angler must have a minimum of two (2) winning fish in the Offshore Division and two (2) winning fish in Inshore/Nearshore Division. This must include at least one (1) winning fish in each division in one of the casting categories (Fly, Spin or Plug).

Anglers (ages 10-18) must submit catch affidavits for five (5) different species of fish that are ‘qualifying’ entries (qualifying meaning fish meets the minimum weight required for entry). Of those entries, the angler must have a minimum of two (2) winning fish on the board in any division (Offshore and – or Inshore/Nearshore). This must include at least one (1) winning fish in one of the casting categories (Fly, Spin or Plug). In the event of a tie, the angler who submits the most qualifying fish within the casting categories will be deemed the winner. If this does not break the tie, then the angler’s heaviest fish within the casting categories will determine the winner.

Past Junior Angler of the Year Winners

All club Pee Wee anglers (ages 9 and under) are eligible for one award regardless of the tackle used, species caught or location of catch. Pee Wee anglers will receive one award at the conclusion of the contest regardless of the number of fish entered. There is no Pee Wee Angler of the Year Award.
