4 West Palm Beach Fishing Club club news Members Help Make Clubhouse Improvements Maintaining a building that is nearly 80 years old requires constant TLC. Thank- fully we have many highly skilled members in our ranks who are willing to provide the expertise and support needed to keep our historic clubhouse in tip top shape. The past year has been full of significant improvements to the club’s headquarters. New air conditioners have replaced the massive old AC wall units that once hung on the north side of the building for nearly 20 years. The club is grateful to have the expertise of longtime member Tom Edwards from Climate Control Services who coor- dinated the installation. The new mini-split units are quiet, which is great for monthly club meetings, and they are more energy efficient than their predecessors, saving the club money each month on its electric bill. Removing the old AC units meant repairing huge holes, inside and out, on the building. Club member Guy Bartels and his crew from Yellowfin Builders rose to the occasion showing up in force to get the holes buttoned up. This is not the first time Guy and his crew have done repairs to our vintage lap board clubhouse. To look at the building you be hard pressed to see where the old AC units once were. Longtime club member Mike Davidson and his team from Sunrise Painting followed up behind painting the interior and exterior portions. Mike has painted the entire clubhouse in the past, so he is quite familiar with what is required to get the job done. To make room for our newest staff member the club had to totally redesign the front office inside the clubhouse. The upgrade was long overdue. Some of the desks in the office dated back to the 1940s. Club members John & Jeff Rye of Stillwater Industries, outstanding makers of custom offices and cabinets, were called into action. Their input and expertise resulted in an integrated set of work stations that has added storage space and efficiently accommodates the various computers and other devices required to keep the club running smoothly. John & Jeff are no strangers to club projects. They designed and built the cabinetry in the clubhouse kitchen and built the All Time Club Record Board cabinet, which is a main focal point inside our building. The blue marlin that hangs on the south side of the building was finally showing its age after nearly three decades. Several hurricanes and a southerly exposure finally took its toll on the big fish. It just so happens that our friend Raymond Douglas at King Sailfish Mounts has the mold for the record marlin. A new marlin mount was made, along with a new sailfish mount for the north side of the building. Both mounts have been specifically designed and built for outdoor applications. A talented crew of club members were on the scene when the time came to hang the fish. Hanging fish on the side of the building sounds simple, but the task is much more involved than it looks. Members Nelson, May Ellen & Kevin Schad, George Patane, Barry Brimacomb and Dave & Blake Naumann all have become experts at hanging these fish! Finally, club member Donna Dicker- son and her crew at North Atlantic Electric have tweaked our exterior lights and always provide needed elec- trical support when called upon. We thank these members for helping keep our historic clubhouse looking fresh. The old building never looked better!
