27 Tight Lines Bulletin - Spring 2016 WPBFC member Andrew Schultz of North Palm Beach is a relatively new member, yet he’s already had one memorable fishing experience with the club. During the club’s Drift Boat Outing in early March, Andy’s raffle ticket was selected giving him the opportunity to man the wahoo rod on the way back to the dock. Captain Max Parker had pre-rigged a black and pearl mylar Ilander lure with a fresh bonito strip for the task. The lure was deployed on the business end of a bent-butt 50 fished from the stern of the Living On Island Time. Within minutes the reel was screaming, which immediately elicited whoops and hollers from the other 29 club members on board. “Get’em Andy!”, “Got’em on!” and "Wind Andy, wind!” could be heard from the crowd that had gatheredto watch. Several minutes later Andy’s wahoo, which was lit up like a neon light, hit the deck to everyone’s applause. It was an exciting conclusion to a fun day of drift fishing. To date, the WPBFC has coordinated two members-only drift boat outings aboard the Liv- ing On Island Time, based out of the Palm Beach Yacht Center in Hypoluxo. Both of these excursions were sold out, indicating that there is quite a bit of interest for trips like this from club members. For many, the social aspect of the trip is as much fun as the fishing. These trips are a great alternative for mem- bers who don't own their own boats. The $50 outing fee is also a tremendous value. In addition to four hours of fishing aboard a beautiful 60’ boat, the club provides raffle drawings, a $200 cash ‘Biggest Keeper Fish’ prize, participant giveaways and lunch & drinks immediately following fishing. “I caught seven fish today, what’s not to like? I can’t wait for the club’s next trip. This is really fun, meeting new people and just being on the wa- ter,” commented longtime member Bob Guzauskas of West Palm Beach following the club’s most recent trip. The WPBFC is very grateful to have the support of the Schulz family from Southern Comfort Charters, the Palm Beach Yacht Center, Penn Fishing Tackle, Costa and Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches. Stay tuned to future club emails for an- nouncements on when the next drift boat outing is planned. If the past is any indication, the trip will fill up quickly…and Andy Schultz will probably be the first in line! Club Drift Boat Trips a Hit
